The pilgrims' and convalescents' hospice attached to Santissima Trinità dei Pellegrini, built in 1625 for that Jubilee and largely demolished in 1940. Roma Capitale records that over roughly two hundred years it took in up to 400,000 people.
History
Roma Capitale records that in 1849 the hospice was turned into a military hospital during the fighting with the French army in defence of the Roman Republic, and that it was effectively run by Princess Cristina Trivulzio di Belgiojoso with other Italian patriot women and the American journalist Margaret Fuller Ossoli. More than 1,500 wounded were treated there, among them Goffredo Mameli, who died there at 21.
