Palazzo Cisterna

Historic site · Regola, Italy

A palace on via Giulia with painted coffered ceilings and walls frescoed with grotesques that incorporate Roman fragments. A Roman cistern survives in the basement that was once the stable. The Fondazione Paolo Francesco e Annamaria Ducci has been based here since 1998.

History

The sculptor Guglielmo Della Porta commissioned and designed the palace in the second half of the sixteenth century and lived in it until his death in 1577. The painter Eugenio Cisterna bought it in 1909, decorated its interiors and lived there; after his death part of it was acquired by the Ducci family, who still own it.
