Sunset at Salt Meadow

The original core of the refuge and site of its headquarters: Esther Everett Lape donated 150 acres here in 1972 to create Connecticut's first national wildlife refuge, renamed for Congressman Stewart B. McKinney in 1987. The refuge's longest trail, the 1.72-mile Salt Meadow Trail, is here, along with the Pond Overlook and Crossover trails. Phone (860) 399-2513.
