St. Mark's Church in-the-Bowery
Historic site · East Village, New York
Completed in 1799 on the site of Peter Stuyvesant's family chapel, built around 1660; Stuyvesant is buried in a vault beneath it. A New York City Landmark and National Register-listed site, it's the city's oldest site of continuous religious practice and home to the Poetry Project and Danspace.
