Stow Lake

A lake of 12.7 acres encircling Strawberry Hill, crossed by two bridges of 1893 by the architect Arthur Page Brown: the Roman Bridge, a gentle arch of iron-reinforced, smooth-finished concrete on the north side, and the Rustic Stone Bridge, a more steeply arching pedestrian bridge covered with bulging rustic stones, over the south arm.
History
Stow Lake was completed, along with Huntington Falls, in 1893, and was built as an overflow lake for a reservoir set on top of Strawberry Hill. It was constructed with a 10-inch layer of clay, on top of which was placed a 3-inch layer of crushed rock that was rolled into the clay.
