Stuyvesant Heights Historic District

577 contributing rowhouses and apartment buildings, built roughly 1870 to 1900 in Italianate, Second Empire and Queen Anne Revival styles, most of them two- and three-story houses with high basements. Not a single site but a walkable streetscape, with the densest blocks on MacDonough, Decatur, Chauncey, Lewis and Stuyvesant.
History
The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 4, 1975, and the listed boundary was expanded on November 15, 1996. The New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission designated an Expanded Stuyvesant Heights Historic District on April 16, 2013, extending the locally landmarked area north to Jefferson Avenue, east to Malcolm X Boulevard and west to Tompkins Avenue.
