Teatro Sala Umberto

A theatre on Via della Mercede. Roma Capitale records that it was designed by Andrea Busiri Vici, with decoration by the scenographer Alessandro Bazzani, and opened in 1882 as a concert hall named the Teatro della Piccola Borsa.
History
Roma Capitale records that Giulio Podesti enlarged it to 650 seats in 1890, that it was renamed around 1900 and used as a Cinemofono from 1906, and that Petrolini debuted here on 25 May 1911. Attilio Spaccarelli and Arnaldo Foschini refitted it for the Universal Exposition marking fifty years of Italian unity, the work finished in 1913, and it was rebuilt in 1928 with a twelve-metre proscenium and modern projection equipment. Roma Capitale describes it as a temple of variety and revue between the 1910s and the 1940s.
