Three Republican temples embedded in the basilica of San Nicola in Carcere and its flanks. The identifications of the individual buildings are not certain: the Sovrintendenza Capitolina and it.wikipedia assign the dedications differently, and it.wikipedia states outright that the attribution of the individual buildings is not entirely settled.
History
The three temples were built between the first and second Punic wars, and a fourth was found by excavation nearby. The southern temple is Doric, possibly of Spes, and its columns are visible in the left wall of the church. The central temple measures 30 by 15 metres and is Ionic, probably of Juno Sospita, with remains visible in the crypt. The northern temple is Ionic, 26 by 15 metres, probably of Janus, with seven columns standing on one side and two on the other.
