The Original Crab Shanty
Restaurant · City Island, New York
A restaurant at 361 City Island Avenue, in a building with a longer history than the restaurant. Its own site states that the current operators took over the property in 1977.
History
By the restaurant's own account the building, with its tall ceilings, was a silent movie theater in the early 1900s; the federal government later took it over and made it into the City Island Post Office, which served the community for many years. The same account records a road called Crab Lane that once ran through what is now the parking lot and no longer exists.
