Palazzo del Quirinale

Historic site · Trevi, Italy

The presidential palace, on Piazza del Quirinale: a papal residence, then a royal one, and now the residence of the President of the Italian Republic. The palace is in Trevi; the square in front of it is shared with Monti.

History

It was the papal residence from 1605 to 1870, the royal residence from 1871 to 1946, and has been the presidential residence since. The Italian Wikipedia article ties those changes to the presa di Roma of 20 September 1870 and to the referendum of 2 June 1946.

Its construction is not settled between sources. One Italian Wikipedia article gives 1573-1583, with Ottaviano Mascherino as the first architect; another says it was built in the years 1573-1585 by Martino Longhi il Vecchio and then, from 1578, by Ottaviano Mascherino. Neither account is published here as settled.

No visiting information is given. No source states hours, ticketing, opening days or booking for the palace, so none is given here.
