Villa Farnesina

The Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei's own account records that Agostino Chigi commissioned Baldassarre Peruzzi to design the villa in May 1505, that the first stone was laid on 22 April 1506, and that Chigi moved in in 1511. The Accademia's own account names the fresco painters as Raphael, Sebastiano del Piombo, Giovanni Antonio Bazzi known as Sodoma, and Peruzzi himself. The rooms named on the villa's own visitor route are the Loggia di Amore e Psiche, Sala del Fregio, Loggia di Galatea, Atrio e Sala Farnesiana, Sala delle Prospettive, Sala delle Nozze, Saletta Pompeiana and Galleria delle Grottesche. The villa carries the Farnese name because it passed to that family in 1579; the Accademia's own account observes that it should properly be named for Agostino Chigi, the Sienese banker who built it.
