Whitepot Junction

The junction where the Long Island Rail Road's Main Line meets the Rockaway Beach Branch right-of-way, within Rego Park. The disused branch is the subject of competing campaigns: the QueensWay, which describes its plan as turning a 3.5-mile stretch of abandoned railway in Central Queens into a family-friendly linear park and cultural greenway, and QueensLink, which would extend "the existing 'M' subway line south from 63rd Dr-Rego Park to the Rockaways." Both organizations are advocates for their own schemes.
History
The Long Island Rail Road's Rego Park station is gone. Before it was built, two former stations near the junction were named Matawok, for the Matawok Land Company, "which built the neighborhood surrounding the junction known at the time as 'Forest Hills West.'"
