History
The socialist suffragist Sylvia Pankhurst commissioned and erected it in 1935 as "a protest against war in the air". It faces the Statue of Winston Churchill, Grade II, NHLE 1430402, about 1.5 km south along the same High Road: two monuments of directly opposed politics on one street. The Grade II listing is list entry 1081040.
