Brower Park
Park · Crown Heights, New York
A T-shaped city park of roughly four acres sharing its block with the Brooklyn Children's Museum and P.S. 289. It holds basketball and handball courts, a playground, spray showers, a fitness path and a concrete skate park.
History
The city acquired the southern portion in 1892, when the park was called Bedford Park, and renamed it in 1921 for George Vanderhoof Brower, a former Brooklyn and Queens parks commissioner. A World War I memorial of 1919 stands here; the skate park opened in September 2011 as the second concrete one in Brooklyn, a monarch butterfly garden was added in 2014, and the Shirley Chisholm Circle in 2016.
