Eastern Parkway

Historic site · Crown Heights, New York

The tree-lined boulevard that runs through Crown Heights, designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux and built between 1870 and 1874. The city's Landmarks Preservation Commission and Parks Department credit it as the world's first parkway. It is the route of the annual West Indian Day Parade.

History

Eastern Parkway was designated a New York City scenic landmark on August 22, 1978, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 26, 1983. The West Indian Day Parade has been held along it since approximately 1968.
