Cappella di Santa Maria Addolorata all'Esquilino

Historic site · Esquilino, Italy

A richly decorated chapel in via di San Quintino, belonging to the annexed convent of the Figlie di Nostra Signora al Monte Calvario. Over the entrance portal is the phrase Virgini perdolenti, surmounted by a coat of arms carrying the three crosses of Calvary; inside, a screen separates the nuns' part of the liturgical hall from the faithful's.

History

The chapel was built in 1928 and renewed in 2001. On the left as one enters is the tomb of Sister Maria Teresina Zonfrilli, who died in the convent on 20 January 1934 and whose cause was introduced by Pius XII in 1957.
