Casa del Cinema

A cinema and cultural venue in the Casina delle Rose inside Villa Borghese, at Largo Marcello Mastroianni 1. It has three screening and conference rooms, an open-air theatre for digital projection and live performance, two exhibition rooms, a networking space, a cafeteria and a restaurant. The outdoor arena is the Teatro all'aperto Ettore Scola, part of this venue rather than a separate one.

History

The idea came from the journalist Felice Laudadio. The Casina delle Rose, comune property and derelict for twenty-five years, was identified in September 2001, restored for seven million euro and inaugurated by the mayor Walter Veltroni on 18 September 2004. Laudadio directed it until 2011, Caterina D'Amico from 2011 to 2014 and Giorgio Gosetti from 2014 to 2022. Management passed from the Azienda Speciale Palaexpo to Zetema in February 2011 and to the Fondazione Cinema per Roma in February 2023; after a restyling it reopened on 5 May 2023, with the editorial line curated by Paola Malanga.
