Casa di Goethe
Museum · Campo Marzio, Italy
The apartment on via del Corso where Goethe lived between 1786 and 1788, opened as a museum in 1997. Roma Capitale gives the hours as Tuesday to Sunday 10.00 to 18.00, closed Monday, with last admission half an hour before closing.
History
Roma Capitale records that Goethe shared the apartment with the painters Tischbein, Johann Georg Schütz and Friedrich Bury; that the collection covers German artists from the poet's Roman circle alongside contemporary Italian and German work, with a permanent display called Goethe in Italia; and that it holds Andy Warhol's 1982 portrait of Goethe, made after Tischbein. There are two libraries, that of the Deutscher Künstlerverein and a reference library of about 8,500 volumes.
