Chain of Lakes
Park · Golden Gate Park, California
Three lakes in the western half of the park: North Lake of 3.8 acres, Middle Lake of 1.3 acres and South Lake of 1.1 acres. North Lake holds several small islands planted with wetland trees such as swamp cypress, weeping willows and alders; Middle Lake is well hidden by tules and other dense planting.
History
The three lakes were made in 1898. The rustic bridges that once connected North Lake's islands are no longer present, and an extensive rehabilitation of that lake was completed in 2004.
