First Chinese Baptist Church of San Francisco

Wikipedia records that the congregation was founded in 1880 by the missionary J. B. Hartwell as a Southern Baptist mission in a rented storefront, and that a permanent church under the Home Mission Board was established in 1888 at Waverly Place and Sacramento Street. The congregation broke away with thirteen others over Mayor Isaac Kalloch's anti-Chinese politics and became Northern Baptist. The building burned in the fire that followed the 1906 earthquake, and the congregation moved to Oakland while it was rebuilt.
