Church of St Edward the Confessor, Romford

The Grade II* listing was made on 4 July 1952 as list entry 1358535, under the statutory name 'Parish Church of St Edward the Confessor'. The present church was built in 1849-50 to designs by John Johnson, replacing a church completed in 1410 and demolished in 1849. The chancel holds a monument to George Hervey and a memorial to Anthony Cooke attributed to the sculptor Cornelius Cure; the glass includes an east window by Charles Edmund Clutterbuck and three south chapel windows by William Wailes. Romford War Memorial nearby carries its own Grade II listing, NHLE 1452855, made on 9 January 2018. Havering Council names the church among the borough's historic buildings. Romford station is served by the Elizabeth line, the Liberty line and Greater Anglia.
