Romford Market trades on Market Place, RM1 3ER, on Wednesday and Friday from 9am to 4.30pm and on Saturday from 9am to 5pm. Pitch rent for casual traders starts at £20 a day, and the stalls run to fruit and vegetables, a fishmonger, a butcher, street food, clothing, homeware and plants. History
The council states that the market was 'first opened in 1247 by Royal Order during King Henry III's reign', originally selling sheep and cattle, and that it 'soon become a key trading centre and was well established as a supplier of goods to London'. It trades three days a week on Market Place, with access from St Edwards Way, Market Link, Laurie Walk, Swan Walk, High Street, South Street, North Street and Mercury Gardens. The market place lies inside the Romford conservation area, one of eleven conservation areas of the London Borough of Havering; conservation areas are borough-designated and carry no list entry number. The Church of St Edward the Confessor, Grade II*, NHLE 1358535, stands at the head of the market place. The council gives Romford station as a 7-minute walk and the market bus stops as two minutes away.
