A three-masted square-rigged ship of 1886, part of San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park. The ships of San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park are berthed at the Mare Island Coal Sheds in Vallejo while Hyde Street Pier is rebuilt.
History
Balclutha was built in 1886 by Charles Connell & Co. Ltd near Glasgow: 256.50 feet in length, 38.65 feet in beam, 22.75 feet depth of hold, 1,689.30 gross tons. She carried grain between California and Europe from 1887 to 1899, Pacific lumber under Hawaiian registry from 1899 to 1902, and Alaska salmon as Star of Alaska from 1902 to 1930. From 1933 to 1954 she worked as a film ship under the name Pacific Queen. She was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on 7 November 1976, reference number 76000178, and is a National Historic Landmark.
