Fontana della Dea Roma
Historic site · Campitelli, Italy
The fountain set into the front of the Palazzo Senatorio. The Sovrintendenza Capitolina gives the author as Matteo Bartolani da Citta di Castello, dates it 1588-1589, describes it in marble, and records that it was originally fed by the Acqua Felice.
History
The same Sovrintendenza page records that the Nile and Tiger colossi, the second later read as the Tiber, were placed by Michelangelo on plinths in 1543; that the central niche took a Minerva in 1583; and that in 1593 that figure was replaced by a small seated Domitianic Minerva in porphyry and marble.
