Green-Wood Cemetery

A 478-acre rural cemetery and National Historic Landmark, free to enter and open 365 days a year. Its main entrance is at Fifth Avenue and 25th Street, with further entrances at Fourth Avenue and 35th Street, Fort Hamilton Parkway at Micieli Place, and Prospect Park West at 20th Street.
History
The cemetery was Henry Evelyn Pierrepont's idea. It was chartered in 1838, with acts of incorporation passed on April 18, 1838, and first used for burial on September 5, 1840. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 8, 1997 and designated a National Historic Landmark on September 20, 2006. In 2017 it received 280,000 visitors.
