McLaren Lodge

The lodge at the Stanyan Street end of the park, in a Moorish-Gothic style, its exterior walls 18 inches thick in ashlar basalt masonry with sandstone quoins. It is the administrative headquarters of the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department. San Francisco Landmark No. 175, designated in 1984.
History
Built in 1896 to house the then Park Commission and as a residence for Superintendent John McLaren, who lived in the Lodge for forty-seven years, and designed in a Moorish-Gothic style by the architect Edward R. Swain. A yellow brick and glass annex was added in 1950 and is connected to the Lodge by a breezeway.
