Koret Children's Quarter
Park · Golden Gate Park, California
The children's playground below the Sharon Building, with a carousel in its own building. Five cast concrete animal sculptures by Vicki Saulls of 2007, a yellow crab, a pink crab, a purple crab, a pelican and a tortoise, were commissioned by the San Francisco Arts Commission and are carried in the city's Civic Art Collection as Untitled (group of animals).
History
The playground dates from about 1888. The Foresters of America Memorial, a marble fountain of 1927 just west of the Sharon Building, honours foresters killed in the First World War, 1917 to 1919. The Sarah B. Cooper Memorial, sandstone on concrete by Jack Moxom, 1939, stands at the picnic area in the meadow beside the playground.
