Kingston Market Place and the Market House

Market rights were granted in the royal charter of 1208 and the market was formally established in 1242; a Wednesday market was added in 1662 alongside the existing Saturday market. The Market House was built between 1838 and 1840 to a design by Charles Henman Senior and is one of the thirteen Grade II* entries in the borough, NHLE 1358428. A statue of Queen Anne of 1706 stands on the balcony of its southern facade and was re-gilded in 1995.
