Kingston Museum

The museum holds the principal collection on Eadweard Muybridge, who was born in Kingston: over 2,000 glass magic lantern slides and 67 glass zoopraxiscope discs, together with equipment from his public lectures in the United States and Europe in the 1880s and 1890s. It also holds 120 pieces of Martinware ceramics and the Brill Collection of more than 110 topographical artworks. Three permanent displays cover the borough's ancient origins, its medieval-to-1940s development under the title 'Town of Kings', and Muybridge. A stone from King John's Palace stands in the courtyard of the public library and carries its own Grade II listing, NHLE 1358458.
