Powell Street Railway Shelter
Historic site · Golden Gate Park, California
A gable-roofed rectangular shelter open at both ends, its walls a combination of wood, concrete and brick, its roof structure of exposed heavy timber trusses with mortise and tenon joints. It now serves as a pedestrian entrance to the park.
History
It was constructed in 1889 as a gateway to the park for riders of the Powell Street Cable Car and served the railroad until 1906.
