Mount Prospect Park

A 7.79-acre city park on the high ground beside Grand Army Plaza, on the site of a Revolutionary War lookout and, later, a 19th-century reservoir.
History
The ground served as a Continental Army lookout point in 1776, near the Heights of Guan. Brooklyn built a reservoir here in 1856; the site was excluded from the adjoining Prospect Park because Flatbush Avenue cut through the proposed area. The reservoir became obsolete when City Water Tunnel No. 2 was finished in 1936, demolition began in 1938, and the park was dedicated on May 27, 1939.
