Msgr. McGolrick Park

The City of Brooklyn acquired the land in 1889 and named it Winthrop Park for Assemblyman Winthrop Jones. A playground was created in 1897, and the shelter pavilion by the architectural firm of Helmle and Huberty was erected in 1910; it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, recognized as a New York City landmark, and was restored in 1985 with a new roof, walkway repairs, a reconstructed colonnade, and replacement windows and doors. The park was renamed in 1941 for Monsignor Edward J. McGolrick, who served fifty years as pastor of St. Cecilia's Roman Catholic Church on Herbert Street.
