A small chapel in the Apostolic Palace, near Raphael's loggias, on the Vatican Museums itinerary and covered by the Museums ticket.
History
It is named for Nicholas V, Tommaso Parentucelli, 1447 to 1455, who had it built in the top two floors of a tower raised under Innocent III. Fra Angelico decorated it, and two payments of February and March 1448 date the work: two registers run the perimeter with the lives of St Stephen and St Lawrence, the ceiling carries the Four Evangelists in four sail sections, and eight Doctors of the Church stand in niches on the framing arches. The Museums' timeline records a restoration in 1995 and 1996.
