Albergo Rosso and the Alberghi Suburbani

Four Alberghi Suburbani - Rosso, Bianco, Giallo and Beige - were built from 1927 for the Istituto Case Popolari under Alberto Calza Bini, who called them «Alberghi di transito», for families evicted by the sventramenti of the late 1920s. They combined temporary housing with collective services: a canteen, a creche and a school, a chapel, laundries and ironing rooms, kitchens, shared washrooms, day rooms, outdoor play space and stores. Sabbatini resigned from the ICP on 7 March 1929 over changes made during construction.
