Catacomba di Santa Tecla
Historic site · Ostiense, Italy
A small catacomb on via Silvio d'Amico, which follows the line of the old via delle Statue. No source states opening arrangements, so none are given here.
History
A 4th-century underground basilica stands over a 3rd-century cemetery, whose three ambulacra are laid out as an isosceles triangle with 22 burial chambers. Who Tecla was is unresolved: Paul Styger argued for Thecla of Iconium, while Umberto Maria Fasola, who excavated the site in the later 20th century, argued for a Roman woman martyred under Diocletian.
