Piazza Lovatelli

Historic site · Sant'Angelo, Italy

A small square holding Palazzo Caetani Lovatelli and, at no. 35, the seat of the Sovrintendenza Capitolina ai Beni Culturali.

History

The Sovrintendenza Capitolina records that the square was formerly piazza Serlupi, from the family that built its residence there in 1580. The convent of Sant'Ambrogio della Massima, which from the seventeenth century owned the buildings that are now the Sovrintendenza's seat, extended over most of the block between the square, via di Sant'Ambrogio and via di Sant'Angelo in Pescheria.
