Polka Theatre, 240 The Broadway, SW19 1SB, programmes for ages 0 to 13. It has a main auditorium of 300 seats and a studio of 70, 370 in all, alongside a creative learning studio, a garden, a playground, an indoor play area, exhibition space and a cafe.
History
Polka began in 1967 as a touring puppet company under Richard Gill, and the venue, converted from the Holy Trinity Halls, opened on 20 November 1979. The building closed on 18 February 2019 for redevelopment; the reopening planned for summer 2020 was delayed by the pandemic, and the larger space reopened in 2025 renamed the Y C Chan Theatre. South Wimbledon Underground station, on the Northern line, is 433 m away, and Wimbledon station is about 900 m west.
