Still an operating public pool inside the Red Hook Recreation Area, and an individual New York City Landmark covering the bath house, pool, former diving pool, bleachers, comfort station, storage house and perimeter fencing.

History

Constructed 1934-36 by Joseph L. Hautman and others, with Aymar Embury II as consulting architect, on a landfill site between the former Erie Basin and the Gowanus Bay. It opened in 1936 as the eleventh and last WPA pool to open in New York City, and was designated a landmark on November 18, 2008 as LP-2241.
