Palazzo Cenci and Palazzetto Cenci

The Cenci family complex on Monte de' Cenci, with a plain flat-rusticated façade and a wide architraved portal, a courtyard with an Ionic loggia and sixteenth-century room decoration. A medieval arch links it to the Palazzetto Cenci, designed by Martino Longhi the Elder. Roma Capitale states that the palace is closed to the public and can be seen only from the outside.
History
Most of the medieval palace was demolished and the present building dates from 1570. In the late Middle Ages the area was called Campus Iudaeorum and housed many Roman Jews who moved here from Trastevere after the fire of 1268 destroyed the old synagogue. Roma Capitale records that Beatrice Cenci, accused with her brothers and her stepmother of her father's murder, was beheaded at Ponte Sant'Angelo in 1599.
