Atkinson House

A house of 1853 on the Vallejo Street crest, San Francisco Landmark No. 97, designated in 1977. The city register names it the Atkinson-Escher House. It is a private residence and cannot be visited.

History

It was built in 1853 by the architect William H. Ranlett with the contractor Charles Homer and the mason Joseph H. Atkinson, who between them put up three houses on what is now the Vallejo Street crest in 1853 and 1854. The house came through the 1906 earthquake, and it contributes to the Russian Hill-Vallejo Street Crest District, National Register reference number 87002289.
