The Sovrintendenza Capitolina records the Stadium in Rione VI Parione. Its operator's website states that the archaeological area is currently closed to the public.
History
The Sovrintendenza's description of the building: the Circus Agonalis, 265 by 106 metres, circus-shaped but differing from a circus in its smaller size and in having neither spina nor obelisk; an exterior of two tiers of arcades on piers, Ionic below and Corinthian above, with an entrance on each side; construction in travertine block and brick facing, the interior walls in soberly decorated stucco. Its walls re-emerged in 1936 during demolition and rebuilding work on the emiciclo, and after full excavation the remains were incorporated into the Palazzo dell'INA. Piazza Navona above it keeps the stadium's outline.
