Sutton Ecology Centre Grounds

The Ecology Centre opened in 1989. The land was recorded as Cook's Orchard from 1590 and later served as kitchen gardens for Stone Court, demolished about 1800. The old channel of the River Wandle runs through the south of the site, with yellow flag iris along it, and Margaret's Pool holds dragonflies and damselflies and is ringed by sycamore and ash. The Old Rectory stands in the grounds and carries its own entry, "The Old Rectory, Carshalton", Grade II* listed, NHLE 1183473, made on 16 March 1954 with the statutory address "Pound Street, Carshalton, Sutton, SM5 3NX"; it dates from the early 1700s. The centre is an active venue in Sutton Libraries' events and bookings system. Carshalton station is 396 m away.
