Tempio di Bellona
Historic site · Sant'Angelo, Italy
The podium of a Republican temple, adjoining the temple of Apollo Sosiano at the flank of the Teatro di Marcello.
History
Appius Claudius Caecus vowed the temple in 296 BC after a victory over the Etruscans. It stood outside the pomerium, and the Senate met in it when the business involved foreigners or serving commanders. The podium was found in the 1930s clearance around the Teatro di Marcello.
