The coffee house at via dei Condotti 86, written here as a historic site rather than as a place to get a coffee. it.wikipedia records that it was temporarily closed during 2025 by the Ospedale Israelitico di Roma and that a reopening was reported in May 2026, and the business's own site currently carries a campaign about the future of the premises. No source states its opening hours, so none are given here.
History
Roma Capitale records the founding in 1760 by Nicola di Madalena, a Levantine coffee-seller, from whom the name comes, and counts over 300 works on the walls, with the Sala Omnibus holding medallions, miniatures and plaster plaques recording Bizet, Baudelaire, Byron, D'Annunzio, Goethe, Joyce, Leopardi, Nietzsche, Silvio Pellico, Buffalo Bill and Sitting Bull. Roma Capitale also lists it among the city's historic shops. it.wikipedia records that the Gruppo dei Romanisti meets here on the first Wednesday of every month and has published the Strenna dei Romanisti each year on 21 April, the Natale di Roma, since 1940, and that the café belongs to Locali storici d'Italia, a private association.
