Ara Pacis Augustae

Roma Capitale records that the altar was built along the via Flaminia at the edge of the northern Campo Marzio, and that the alluvial ground and the Tiber floods silted it over until it was buried and its position forgotten. Reconstruction was decided for the 1937 to 1938 bimillenary of Augustus' birth and entrusted to the archaeologist Giuseppe Moretti; it was physically carried out in the summer of 1938 inside a pavilion on via di Ripetta designed by Vittorio Ballio Morpurgo. it.wikipedia records that the original site stood one Roman mile, 1,472 m, from the pomerium.
