Basilica di Santa Croce in Gerusalemme

Historic site · Esquilino, Italy

The basilica's own site places it «a Roma, nel Rione Esquilino, a ridosso delle Mura Aureliane e dell'Anfiteatro Castrense, tra la Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano e Porta Maggiore», and records that Santa Croce is part of the visiting circuit of the Seven Churches. The same site gives its opening hours as 7:30 to 19:00, and states that entry to the basilica is free and needs no booking. During liturgical celebrations tourist visits are not permitted.

History

it.wikipedia records that Pius X erected the parish here on 13 March 1910 and that Cistercians have been resident since the sixteenth century. The basilica is not among the Holy See's extraterritorial properties in Rome; it does not appear on that published list.
