Brooklyn Bridge Park

An 85-acre waterfront park built on a former cargo-port site, free and open daily from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. The Pier 1 and Pier 2 section sits directly below the Brooklyn Heights Promenade and is connected to it by the Squibb Park Bridge.
History
The shoreline was a ferry landing from the mid-1600s and later a working cargo port. After the Port Authority ended cargo operations and announced in 1984 that it would sell the piers for private development, Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO residents organized as the Brooklyn Bridge Park Coalition and won public parkland instead. Construction began in 2008; Pier 1 opened in 2010, Pier 2 in 2014, and the park reached substantial completion in 2021.
