Brooklyn Heights Promenade

A pedestrian esplanade cantilevered over the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, looking out on the harbor and Lower Manhattan. It is also known as the Esplanade.
History
The Promenade exists because of a 1941 fight over Robert Moses's plan to route the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway directly through Brooklyn Heights. Engineers agreed to a waterfront alignment carrying the highway on two decks with a public esplanade on top. The southern half opened October 7, 1950, the northern half December 7, 1951.
