Hadrian's mausoleum, later a fortress and a papal refuge, now a state museum. Roma Capitale's tourism office describes it as monument, archaeological area and museum, and records that it became a museum site in 1925. Roma Capitale states the museum opens Tuesday to Sunday 9.00–19.30, last admission 18.30, closed Mondays, 25 December and 1 January. From 3 August 2026 and for the rest of 2026 it also opens on the first Monday of each month, 14.00–20.00, last admission 19.00, with a 5-euro ticket, no booking and no groups. Tel. 06 6819111.

History

Roma Capitale's tourism office gives the address as Lungotevere Castello 50. This guide publishes no construction date for the castle: the datings that circulate are aggregator-only, with no primary source behind them. Italian Wikipedia gives ownership to the Italian State, through the Ministero della cultura, managed since December 2019 by the Direzione Musei statali di Roma. One warning about Roma Capitale's own material: its Castel Sant'Angelo page attributes the Landsknechte of the 1527 Sack of Rome to Charles VIII, while its Porta Santo Spirito page attributes them to Charles V.
