Casina del Salvi
Cafe · Celio, Italy
A caffetteria in the Parco archeologico del Celio, with the bar on the ground floor and the outside terrace and a study room upstairs, fitted with wi-fi, tables with charging points and space to sit. Roma Capitale gives the opening as every day, 9.00 to 16.30 in winter and 9.00 to 19.00 in summer.
History
Roma Capitale records that the Casina was built in 1835 against the remains of the Temple of the Deified Claudius, at the wish of Gregory XVI, as a caffetteria, and that it is named for its architect Gaspare Salvi, who took Valadier's coffee-house on the Pincio as his model. After restoration it returned to its nineteenth-century use.
